Highlights included Cumhur Bilgili, from Brisa Bridgestone Sabanci Tyre Manufacturing and Trading in Turkey, winning the prestigious title of risk management professional of the year. Given the extremely high calibre of entrants for this category, the judges also decided to give a highly commended award to Andrew Zerzan of Reed Elsevier.
Aaron Ginzburg, Sustainable Development Manager at Abbot Point Bulkcoal in Australia triumphed in the hard-fought international diploma student of the year category and travelled from Australia to receive his award.
Over 200 entries were received for this year’s Awards, an increase of 50 percent on last year, and the event was supported by the City of London Corporation, Allied World, Atradius, Marsh Risk Consulting, Polygon Group, Saudi Aramco and Zurich Insurance plc. The Awards were judged by a panel of over 30 renowned risk professionals from across the world.
Richard Anderson, Chairman of the Institute of Risk Management, commented: “From its inception 28 years ago here in the City of London, the remit and scope of the Institute of Risk Management has developed to serve a profession that continues to increase in importance, prominence and recognition by the day.
“Nowhere is this more evident than in the extremely high calibre of entries for the 2014 Global Risk Awards. It is humbling to see the talent represented and I want to congratulate all nominees and winners on their remarkable achievement.”
Jeremy Harrison, IRM Chief Executive, commented: “These Awards are without parallel in their global reach, calibre of entrants and rigorous judging process. The Awards celebrate the full range of practical qualities required for risk management excellence in today’s world, and I encourage anyone connected with the risk management community to start thinking about entering our 2015 Awards now.”
